Notes

We left Sparks at the butt crack of dawn and were on the water not too long after first light. We thought we were fishing the Nets but actually started off at Separator Beach. Zak hooked and played a fish for awhile but didn't net it. I had a couple hits on a retrieve but failed to play anything for very long. Not a great start, but not horrible.

We tried another beach, then drove down to Popcorn as the day started getting windy. There were a bunch of people there and I think we saw someone get blown off their ladder. We also saw a couple fish get caught there. We ate lunch, then drove up to Sandhole or Wino and fished there for a bit. We saw a couple catch 2 fish in maybe 10 minutes while the rest of us struggled to catch zilch. But after they caught the 2 fish, things were dead for an extended period again.

Around 2pm, we drove up to the South Nets and noticed a couple people catching fish. A group of several guys down close to the 1000 yard boundary hammered fish all afternoon, including some nice ones (at least that's what their hooting and hollering indicated). I finally started catching fish on both the retrieve and nymphing. The fish seemed to come in spurts - I'd catch a couple in succession, then nothing for awhile. We ended up leaving the beach around 6 or 6:30 due to the wind, cold, and hunger, but in retrospect I probably should have continued fishing. There must have been a large school of fish in the shallows.

Zak, Karl, and Eric struggled at the Nets in comparison. I think Karl landed 1, and Zak and Eric might have gotten a couple hits, but that was it. It was interesting that they fished quite close to me, yet didn't hook and land more fish.
