Notes
Zak and I started fishing at the Heiden & Kafka hole, downstream at the second run. There weren't any fish rising so I started nymphing and caught a couple whitefish but no trout. Real slow for the 1-2 hours we worked the run. As we were leaving I tried a woolly bugger with no luck.
Karl arrived as we were leaving and we went down to his cliff hole and slowly but surely started seeing more fish rise. Unfortunately people were fishing the head of the hole so Zak and I walked down a little ways and found a fantastic long run. Not much was rising at first, but after watching the water I started spotting lots of bigger fish plucking nymphs out of the drift. Within 15-30 minutes the fish were rising real consistently up and down the run. I caught 4 smallish rainbows from the hole, as did Zak, but did see a few real nice fish rise. I couldnt' get consistent rises on my flies - I think I needed smaller BWOs and also higher-floating flies.
At the end I switched to nymphs and had a big fish on, likely whitefish. I landed another whitefish on nymphs, and had no hits on a woolly bugger. Pretty selective fish.
