Notes
We got a perfect day weather-wise. It ended up being temperate and cloudy in the afternoon and a solid baetis hatch came off. We fished the crapper hole, avoiding the redds where browns were chasing each other, and focusing on the fish sitting in the slack water out of the current sipping adults. I had a solid afternoon, landing 6 browns and missing 15+ other fish.
It's surprising to me how big the BWOs are on the Owyhee this time of year (18-20). The BWOs that hatch there during the summer seem smaller (20-22), and the BWOs that hatch on the SFB this time of year are tiny (22-24).
Around 4pm we moved up to the lower end of the Powerline hole and fished to risers. Turns out the fish were mostly small rainbows rising to #20 dark olive midges. Huh. My guess is most of the big browns were up towards/in the riffles.
