Notes
A decent evening of fishing for Karl and myself as we continued to figure the river out. Upon arriving at the river I spotted a nice rainbow in a hold I had fished earlier in the day. One one of my first good drifts he took the disco zebra midgeling.
Later on Karl spotted a nice rainbow for me (he was rigged for salmon while I was rigged for nymphs for trout) in about 1' of water. I tried my disco zebra midgeling for many drifts without luck. I siwtched to an orange glue egg and had him on within a couple drifts - a nice 22" bow. We spent the rest of the night wading the stream trying to spot and cast to particular fish.
Later on I was fishing a deeper 2-3' deep run when a fresh-looking salmon moved into the hole. I had light tippet on at the time (3x or 4x) and was fishing a #8 purple egg-sucking leech. I thought about re-rigging to heavier tippet but thought the fish might leave the hole before I would be able to re-rig. Within 5 casts I got a great hookset on the fish and it went like a missile downstream, breaking off after 5 seconds or so. That was the only nice salmon I saw all evening.

bifurcated monkey
you probably need a better reel or rod so you don't get snapped off like that.
