Notes
Weather-wise, today was absolutely beautiful. Fishing-wise, today sucked.
I started fishing the rocky run that runs by the road that is about 1/8 mi below camp site 7. I spotted a few fish that I was able to cast to but eventually spooked before getting any action. I caught one or two little guys as I moved upstream. I nymphed and nymphed and didn't do squat.
Around 2:30 I visited the CS 5 run and spotted a few fish in hard-to-see spots. I spooked one in the place I caught the 19"er a couple weeks ago. And I spooked fish up where Karl had spotted them. *sigh*
Then I went upstream to my CS 4.5 hole and nymphed by way up the left side of the run. I got a splash on the Elk Hair caddis, but no love on my dropper nymphs. I tried changing depths and weights and had no success.
I then revisited the CS 5 run with a woven stone as the bottom fly and a pheasant tail midway between the stone and the indicator, tied off a tag of mono. Within 5 minutes I hooked and landed a nice 19" rainbow. But that was it as I nymphed my way up the shallow riffles.
I walked downstream to the next set of riffles and nymphed the left side of the run and had no love.
I then returned to the big eddy and fished dries to a few small fish that were dimpling the surface. Caught 1 10" rainbow.
Rough day. The bright sun surely didn't help, and there wasn't a real hatch at any time.
