Notes

I took off today to try to catch some winter Bass. I knew It was going to be a slow day but I was wrong. I didn't have very long to fish so I hit this pond . I recently purchased some of those new Rapala X-rap Susspending jerk baits in sizes 8 & 10 and the day after i bought them I read an artical in the In - Fisherman Mag. January 08' Page 15 on the hotest new baits for 08' and these guys were on top of the list. The weather was cold for the week before but got up to almost 60 degrees today but rained its ass off. I used the size 8 ( 4" ) in a dark back, light body, red on the throat and a red with tinsel fether treble on the back. I started fishing out deeper and letting the bait go down about 3-5 foot pausing for about the count of 10 then a slow drag or a pop pop then puase again for another 10 or 15 seconds working this bait SLOWLY is the great thing about this lure you can keep it in the stike zone for as long as you want to. I soon found a patern where I would cast down the shore line out about 5- 10 feet right past the drop off and work it paralel to the drop off with the same drag and pause, pop pop pause. NOTE: the three fish I caught I caught in about 5 foot of water right off the drop in the deeper side of the pond with very slow retreive. All three Bass hit good on a dead rest shortly after the pop pop. Davie used a medium diving Shad Rap for about 20 minuts and then he got cold and wet and sat in the car. I am certin that if I would have stayed I would have caught more.
