Notes
(Pike) OK, so we didn't really catch one, but we might as well have. 2" sucker from Gander in 6-7 FOW 1 Foot off bottom. In between 3rd & 4th telephone poles (one is next to first campground) and directly across the lake the spot is in line with small brown sign in Parking lot.
My dad and I went to Tarryall to try for some pike. We started drilling off of the first jetty, but the water was only a few feet deep. After drilling more holes, we found the 6-8 foot depth we were looking for. We set up two tip-ups with whole 2-3" suckers. I started fishing a little ways away, with a Swedish pimple tipped with sucker meat. My dad drilled a hole in 12 feet of water to try for trout.
After about an hour of jigging and nothing, I want to check the tip-ups. I thought I could see both tip-ups from where I was sitting, but as I approached, I saw that one was tripped. Even more unfortunately, the line was snagged, and I had to break off. The other tip-up wasn't tripped, but the sucker was gone. I went back to my jigging hole and my dad told me he had caught a 12" rainbow.
The bites were very light. Suckers were set 1 foot off the bottom in 6-8 feet of water. Make sure your tip-ups are set light, as is seemed that the pike tended to only mouth the bait. My dad caught the trout on a tiny glow-in the jig tipped with a waxworm. The jig was smaller than the worm. We found where the pike are, so we will be back.
Ice: 14-16", all of it clear.
Depth: 6-8 for pike, 10-12 for trout.
Location: South and east of the very first jetty.
Weather: Absolutely beautiful, sun shining, wind calm. And Matt, the FxR forecast was the most accurate of all the forecasts we looked at, most others were calling for wind and snow.
