Notes
I arrived a little later than I would have liked, and it took awhile to pump up the pontoons and assemble the boat. By the time I was in the water and fishing it was around 11:30am. Overall, the day was okay. I landed 1 20" rainbow that looked okay. Karl landed 5 or 6 I think. I had one fish take off to the middle of the lake and I fought him for 10 minutes before the hook came loose. I also had a handful of other hits, but no hook-ups. I talked to a guy that had been fishing there that morning and he ended up with around 11 for the day.
A couple notes:
- Even though it's a small lake, there is a slow current that runs from the hatchery outputs-end of the lake to the lake's outlet. From paddling around during the afternoon, the only place I found fish were along the south shore of the lake, within 10' of the shore, and they all faced "upstream". I did not find fish along the north shore or in the eastern flats.
- The fish held within 1' of the surface for some reason. Often if I casted directly on top of a few fish, I would see several swirls from the spooked fish.
- The fish did not react to still flies. I tried some small midge patterns and let them drift with the current and fish ignored them.
